Microsoft has announced a cheaper version of the Xbox Elite Series 2 controller. The Xbox Elite Wireless Controller Series 2 – Core costs $50 less than the normal Elite Series 2, and preorders are live now.
The new Xbox Elite Wireless Controller Series 2 – Core (yes, that is its full name) comes in a white finish and costs $129.99/£114.99, compared to the Xbox Elite Wireless Controller Series 2, which retails at $179.99/£159.99. However, with the reduced price comes reduced extras.
Microsoft says the new Core controller has been designed to give players more choice. The Elite Wireless Controller Series 2 - Core "includes the essential components you need to unleash your best game." The new pad features the usual adjustable-tension thumbstick, the wrap-around rubberised grip, and the shorter hair trigger locks, as well as a 40-hour battery life. However, what it doesn't come with, compared to the standard Elite Series 2, are the back paddles and the extra components, such as additional paddles and thumbsticks, the charging dock, and the extra D-pad. These are instead included in the Complete Component Pack, which can be purchased for $59.99, should you want them.
"We've heard players loud and clear and have continued to improve Elite Series 2 controllers to be more reliable than ever before with refined components that are built to last," said Daniel Ruiz, senior marketing manager for Xbox accessories. "For added peace of mind, Elite Series 2 controllers come with Microsoft's 1-year limited warranty."
Microsoft has also announced that from this holiday season, you will be able to customise Xbox Elite Series 2 controllers using the Xbox Design Lab.
